Eco Council
The Eco Council of St. Werburgh’s C.E. Primary School began in 2017-18 and is made-up of pupils, elected by their classmates.
Children in all classes from Year 1 upwards are given the opportunity to nominate themselves to become an Eco Council Member and a class vote allows the children to then select two children (often more for Year 6) from each year group to represent them for the school year.
The role of the Eco Council is to empower children to learn about the school, local and global environments and to think about ways to protect these. Regular meetings are held and the members then cascade their suggestions to the rest of the school family.
The Eco Council have completed a number of projects, including:
WWF - Wear it Wild Day;
Sponsoring an endangered animal;
RSPB - Big School’s Bird Watch.

Archie, Kayde, Ophelia, Arthur, Molly, Ava, Harry G., Carter, Alexa, Seth, Maddison S., plus our Heads and Deputies.
The elections are a very important part of our teaching of democracy in school, which alongside the mutual respect which the children showed so beautifully, comprise part of the fundamental British values which we reflect throughout our school and Trust family.
