Keith Hollins

It is with sadness that we learnt of the passing of Keith Hollins, former Headteacher and Executive Principal of The Cheadle Academy and Westwood College (amongst others), and CEO of the Staffordshire University Academies Trust.

Keith kindly offered advice and support as we formed The Moorlands Primary Federation and through his co-founding of the South Moorlands Schools Learning Community, created many positive opportunities for schools throughout our area.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.

Big Weekend of Jabs for Staffordshire

Big Weekend of Jabs for Staffordshire

People in Staffordshire are being encouraged to get their Covid-19 vaccine during a Big Weekend of walk-in vaccinations.

The national NHS push to get as many people as possible vaccinated against Covid-19 will take place from Saturday 26 to Monday 28 June at various sites across Staffordshire.

All sites will be offering first doses to people aged 18 or over without the need to book an appointment.

Some sites will also offer second doses to people over 40, health and care workers, unpaid carers and people at higher clinical risk, from eight weeks after their first dose.

Cabinet Support Member for Public Health and Integrated Care, Dr Johnny McMahon, urged all adults who haven’t received their vaccine to take full advantage of the walk-ins.

Johnny said:

“Whatever big plans people may have this weekend, I’d urge anybody eligible and still waiting to get their vaccine to take advantage of the NHS Big Weekend. This is an absolutely fantastic opportunity to speed up the vaccination programme in Staffordshire and get more adults their first dose, and get eligible groups fully vaccinated.

"The sooner everyone is vaccinated the sooner we can begin to look to a future where we can live with this virus without the need for restrictions on our lives and freedoms."

Vaccination sites will include Stafford’s Kingston Centre, the Pirelli Stadium in Burton-on-Trent, Whitemoor Lakes in Lichfield and a number of GP practices and other sites.

A full list of the walk-in Staffordshire sites, dates and times can be found on the NHS Midlands and Lancashire CSU website.

The NHS have a tool on their website to help people find their nearest walk-in vaccination site.

Anyone who has already booked an appointment for a first or second jab should stick with the appointment. People can also book an appointment through the national booking system online or by calling 119.

New Signs Keeping Us All Safe New Signs Keeping Us All Safe New Signs Keeping Us All Safe New Signs Keeping Us All Safe New Signs Keeping Us All Safe

New Signs Keeping Us All Safe

We were delighted to welcome five new members to school, in the form of signs featuring two children, a giraffe, a lion and even an elephant!

The two children are looking smart in their school uniform, and because the uniform is a little tight for the animals, they are standing next to a school badge! All of the signs are made out of weatherproof materials, so they can stand on the pavement in rain or shine, to remind roads users of the importance of parking responsibly.

Children in the School Council chose the new signs, and which characters were to be holding these, as part of their commitment to keep everyone in the school family and wider community safe at the start and end of the day.

If you see the new signs, please give them a wave as you walk or drive past safely.

Goodbye Captain Sir Tom

03/02/2021

Goodbye Captain Sir Tom

It was with sadness that we read of the passing of Captain Sir Tom Moore yesterday.

The World War II soldier, who rose to the public eye by walking 100 laps of his garden as he approached his 100th birthday, raised almost £33million for NHS charities and shone brightly with his message of determination and hope at a time when it was needed most.

Following his remarkable fund-raising achievement, and since reaching 100 years old, Tom went on to have many great experiences including a number one song with Michael Ball, and, at the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award ceremony, winning the 'Helen Rollason Award' and having the 'Unsung Hero Award' named after him. He also received the honorary title of 'Colonel'.

He capped off a remarkable year by being knighted in a special investiture by Queen Elizabeth II and became Captain Sir Tom. The Queen led tributes to Captain Sir Tom yesterday, "recognising the inspiration he provided for the whole nation and others across the world".

Nowadays, the words 'legend' and 'inspiration' may be used a little freely, however, with Captain Sir Tom - they seem to fit well.

Captain Sir Tom was indeed a great source of inspiration and leaves a legacy of hope, encapsulated by his wise words, "Tomorrow will be a good day."

God bless you, Captain Sir Tom.

Open letter from the Church of England

Open letter from the Church of England

As a proud church school, we know the importance of prayer in our lives. In an open letter, the Archbishops of Canterbury and York invite everyone across the country - whether they have faith or not - to pause, reflect on the pandemic, and to pray.

The Archbishops give thanks for NHS and social care staff, who they describe as “a blessing and lifeline for our nation”; for clergy; other frontline workers; and “so many good neighbours”. They give thanks for the development of vaccines and reiterate a call to everyone to take the vaccine when it is offered.

They also urge people to support each other both by following the guidelines to limit the spread of the virus, and in practical ways, reaching out in care and kindness.
